Cardiff Blues is the home of the Cardiff Blues and Cardiff Rugby Football Club, located next to the Principality Stadium in the heart of the capital city of Wales. The arms park has been used as a rugby ground since the 1870s and the cricket ground is also located north of the site. The rugby ground, also used by Wales, was developed over many years to include new grandstands and became known as the National Stadium. With a total capacity of 60,000, the British Empire and the Commonwealth Games took place on earth. In May 1966, Cardiff Blues hosted the world's first illuminated game in which Cardiff RFC defeated the Barbarians 12-8. By 1969, the cricket ground had been torn down and paved the way for a restructured arms park with the VRU National Stadium in the south and Cardiff RFC in the north. The National Stadium was later redeveloped into the 1999 Rugby World Cup as the Millennium Stadium.
